DESCRIPTION:  Caribbean Acute Stroke Summit We are pleased to announce the
Caribbean Acute Stroke Summit\, held in beautiful Curacao on April 17th an
d 18th 2027. This two-day event brings together regional and international
speakers\, highlighting current key developments in acute stroke care and
the unique challenges and opportunities in resource-limited regions such
as the Caribbean.Ischemic stroke is a severely debilitating condition for
which acute treatment options have significantly advanced over the past de
cades. For years now\, intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular thrombect
omy have become standard of care. Treatment is possible up to 24 hours aft
er the onset of symptoms\, although earlier treatment still leads to bette
r (functional) outcomes. While these treatments and the necessary diagnosti
c tools are available in many countries\, access remains limited in many r
egions\, including most of the Caribbean. Implementing what is now conside
red basic acute stroke care presents significant challenges on the Caribbe
an islands\, due to financial\, geographical\, and socioeconomic factors.
This necessitates difficult trade-offs in acute stroke care in the Caribbe
an region\, with the ultimate goal of providing high-quality\, accessible
care for everyone. The conference is aimed at both professionals within str
oke care in the Caribbean and those in other regions of the world. In the c
oming months\, we will present the official conference location on Curacao
\, the full conference program\, and our complete list of speakers. Sign u
p for the mailing list to receive updates when the official registration p
age opens.Mailing list Caribbean Acute Stroke Summit - Formulier invullenT
his mailing list will only be used to send sporadic updates regarding the
conference\, such as program announcements and the opening of official reg
istration. We look forward to welcoming you to Curacao![toggle open='true'

DESCRIPTION: \nEnhancing Workplace Learning in Clinical Settings\nFostering
Learning-Rich Clinical Environments: A Week of Collaborative Intervention
s to Advance Workplace Learning\nThis proposal outlines a week-long initia
tive comprising interactive workshops and participant observations designe
d to strengthen workplace learning in clinical settings. The program is ai
med at clinical educators\, undergraduate students\, residents\, and inter
professional team members who contribute to shaping the hospital’s educati
onal culture. Grounded in evidence-informed strategies from health profess
ions education\, the initiative promotes collaborative\, reflective\, and
 context-sensitive learning approaches.\nLearning Goals\n\nDevelop a shared
understanding of workplace learning as a dynamic\, participatory\, and so
cially embedded process\, particularly from the perspective of faculty and
clinical supervisors. \nExamine and strengthen supervisory practices by e
xploring how guidance\, observation\, and structured reflection can be des
igned to maximize learning affordances for trainees. \nCritically reflect
on power\, identity\, and hierarchy by engaging mixed groups of faculty\,
residents\, and students in dialogue about psychological safety\, inclusio
n\, and exclusion in the clinical workplace.\nIdentify and document barrie
rs and enablers of psychological safety across different levels of the hos
pital community\, creating a collective foundation for institutional impro
vement.\nObserve and interpret local workplace learning practices to uncov
er hidden challenges and untapped opportunities for interprofessional coll
 aboration and inclusive education.\nCo-create actionable\, context-sensiti
ve strategies through collective synthesis of workshop outputs and observa
tion insights\, fostering feasible and sustainable improvements in the hos
pital’s learning culture.\n\nStructure\nThe program is structured as a pro
gressive and cumulative learning experience across five days. Workshops on
Days 1–4 are offered to different audiences to ensure broad participation
across the hospital\, while Day 5 integrates all insights through partici
pant observation and collaborative action planning.\nSchedule - Week of Wo
 rkplace Learning Interventions\n[toggle open='true' title='Day 1: Understa

ing Effective Learning Spaces (Faculty & Clinical Supervisors – Group 1)\n
\n\n\n\n \nThis interactive workshop engages faculty and clinical supervis
ors in analyzing mechanisms of participatory learning and identifying lear
ning affordances across roles. Emphasis is placed on balancing individuali
zed learning needs with collective performance standards and on fostering
 adaptable\, inclusive\, interprofessional environments.\n\n\n\nLearning Ou
tcomes:\n\n\n\nAnalyze core mechanisms of participatory learning in clinic
al settings.\nRecognize the educational contributions of diverse professio
nal roles.\nBalance individualized learning trajectories with shared curri
 cular goals.\nDraft initial\, context-sensitive strategies for enhancing c
 linical learning environments.\n\n\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' t

d students reflect on their experiences of psychological safety and its ab
sence in clinical learning. Through dialogue\, participants surface how hi
erarchies\, identity\, and cultural norms shape inclusion and exclusion.\n
\n\n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\n• Reflect critically on how power and identity
shape learning relationships.• Use Rich Pictures to unpack experiences of
(un)safety.• Identify and document barriers and enablers of psychological

DESCRIPTION: \n \n\nThe link between poverty and health is one of the most
critical structural challenges of modern society\, acting not as a series
of isolated individual misfortunes\, but as a compounding\, cyclical syste
mic failure. This relationship demands an urgent societal introspection in
to how economic inequality directly dictates biological outcomes\, life ex
pectancy\, and human dignity. The relationship between economic status and
health is bi-directional\, creating a self-reinforcing trap that is diffi
cult to escape without systemic intervention. We will focus on the fact th
at poverty causes ill health but also that ill health causes poverty. We f
urther venture into the structural drivers of health (including social det
erminants of health and access barriers) \nSeveral speakers will address t
his important topic from different perspectives: youth care\, elderly care
\, mental health care. Careful consideration of the relationship of povert
y and healthcare is also on the agenda of important advisory and oversight
(governmental) institutes like the Inspectorate of Health of Aruba and th
e Advisory Council of Curaçao\, and both institutes will share their view.
Finally\, we will hear more of the ideas\, views\, and visions of the you
nger generation of skilled professionals active on the island on this crit
ical topic. We will finalize with a critical assessment panel providing va
luable take-home messages. \nSocietal introspection demands that we stop v
iewing health disparities as unfortunate side effects of a market economy\
, and instead recognize them as preventable injustices that require immedi
 ate\, structural reform.\nLEARNING GOALS\n\nRealizing the importance of (e
ffectively) addressing poverty to ensure a just and effective health syste
m.\nTo accept that by solving the poverty issue we can guarantee a much be
tter (public) health environment for our community and citizens.\nThe real
ity of poverty in different population groups and the (local) challenges o
bserved.\nHow to better advocate for solving the ever growing poverty issu
e (in healthcare).\nUnderstanding the views on poverty of the future gener
 ations. \n\n TARGET AUDIENCE\n\nHealth professionals\nOther professionals

s for a two-day conference dedicated to one of the most pressing health an
d care challenges of our time.\nThe growing number of people living with d
ementia is a cause for increasing concern worldwide\, including in Curaçao
and across the Caribbean. Dementia affects not only the person diagnosed
but also has a profound impact on families\, caregivers\, healthcare profe
ssionals\, and society as a whole.\nAt the same time\, advances in researc

 , healthcare workers\, caregivers\, policymakers\, and other stakeholders
to share knowledge and explore how we can better respond to the challenges
of dementia in our Caribbean community.\nWhat can we do to reduce the ris
k of dementia? How can dementia and its symptoms be treated and managed? A
nd how can we better support families and caregivers facing the increasing
demands of caring for a loved one with dementia?\nThese and other importa
nt questions will be addressed during this two-day conference. \nBe part o
